If the Lord wills…

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

A couple of days ago, I was at Costco looking at the packets of flower bulbs at $11.99.  They came in hyacinth, tulips, ranunculus, and combinations of red and yellow, or cream and dark purple, or pinks or reds.  I looked and looked and I was hesitant.  Not because of the variety offered but because this was the first time I even thought a few months ahead.  Since my diagnosis, I have only lived a day at a time.  I don’t even think about it nor dwell on it.  The monthly visits to the oncologists are like paragraph spacings in my existence.  I take a deep breathe before I go into the clinic and I let out a relief sigh when I come out of it.   Until the next month, I say to myself, I don’t think have to think about cancer.
